Creating Your First Digital Product? Here’s What You Need to Know
You’ve picked a topic, carved out your time, and you’re ready to create your first digital product. (Yay you!)
But before you dive into Canva or start writing your eBook—slow down for just a second.
Because the difference between a product that sells and one that sits in your Google Drive usually comes down to planning and clarity.
Here Are 10 Important Things to Keep in Mind When Creating Your Digital Product
1. Who Are You Helping? Be Clear About Your Audience.
If your product tries to help everyone, it won’t resonate with anyone.
π― Ask:
-
Is this for new moms?
-
Homeschooling moms?
-
Moms on a budget?
-
Moms who want to feel less overwhelmed?
When you speak to one specific group, your product feels tailor-made—and that makes it sell.

2. What Problem Are You Solving?
Every great product solves a very specific pain point.
π‘ Examples:
-
“I never know what to cook for dinner.” → Meal planner
-
“My toddler throws tantrums all day.” → Routine chart
-
“I can’t stick to a budget.” → Financial tracker
-
“I want to be more present with my kids.” → Mindfulness journal
Your job is to solve ONE problem well.
3. Keep It Simple, Especially the First Time
This is where many moms get stuck. They try to make a 50-page planner or a 12-module course.
Instead, start with one thing:
-
One checklist
-
One workbook
-
One digital journal
You can always expand later.
4. Design Matters—But Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect
Yes, your product should look clean and easy to read.
But perfection? Not required.
β
Stick to 2 fonts
β
Use soft, calming colors moms love (blush, sage, beige)
β
Add simple icons or illustrations via Canva
β
Test it by asking: Would I use this myself?
5. Test Your Idea Before You Build It
One of the best ways to avoid “build it and they don’t come” is to test your idea first.
β¨ Ask your audience (on IG stories, FB, or your email list)
β¨ Offer a free sample or mini version
β¨ Watch which posts get the most engagement
Validation gives you confidence AND direction.

6. Create with the End in Mind (Where Will It Sell?)
Will you sell on:
-
Gumroad?
-
Stan Store?
-
Etsy?
Knowing where you’ll list it helps you design it correctly from the start.
π¦ For example:
Etsy prefers ZIP files
Gumroad handles PDFs easily
Stan Store works best with mobile-optimized downloads
7. Focus on the Transformation, Not Just the Content
Don’t just create a “budget planner.”
Sell the result: “A budget that helps you save $200 this month.”
People buy solutions, not features.
Turn:
β “30-page printable”
Into:
β
“A system to meal plan faster, save money, and stress less”
8. Use Tools That Make Creation EASY
You don’t need 20 different tools. Just a few user-friendly ones:
π οΈ Tools for Moms:
-
Canva (for design)
-
Google Docs (for writing)
-
Stan Store or Gumroad (for selling)
-
Notion or Trello (for planning)
-
Loom (for video tutorials)
These keep things simple and free or low-cost.
9. Give Yourself a Deadline
Without a deadline, that product will stay “almost done” forever. π
β
Pick a launch date
β
Set a timer for each creation task
β
Schedule your CEO hours each week (even just 30 min!)
Done is better than perfect, mama.
10. Get Feedback Before You Launch
Send it to 1–3 trusted people (fellow moms, biz friends, a coach) to catch typos, bugs, or confusing parts.
Early feedback = more confident launch.
